Why did you go into medicine?
I was drawn to the field of medicine from a young age. I enjoyed learning about the amazing complexity of the human body, and I found the opportunity to use knowledge to help others unresistable.
Why did you choose oculofacial plastic surgery?
While I was always aware of my desire to become a doctor, my decision to specialize in the field of oculofacial plastic surgery did not occur until the end of my first year of ophthalmology residency. I fell in love with the variety of surgical procedures that are performed in oculofacial plastic surgery. I also enjoyed the challenge of operating on the face and, in particular, the eyelids. As a difference of smaller than one millimeter between the eyelids can be readily noticed, the field of oculofacial plastic surgery is extremely precise and requires meticulous attention to detail. Finally, I found myself very interested in cosmetic surgeries and in-office procedures.
Why did you choose New Jersey to start your practice?
I am a Jersey boy at heart. Though I lived in NY until I was 5 years old, my formative years were spent in central NJ, where I attended the local elementary, middle, and high schools. My family, along with my wife’s family, still live in the state. Therefore, when looking for a location for my practice, it was easy to decide on my home state of New Jersey.
Who is your most influential person? Why?
The two most influential people in my life would be my father. My father has taught me the value of hard work. He is someone who has worked 12 hours each day, 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year, for the past 30 years. He has sacrificed so much for his family, and is a true inspiration.
What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption. It is a movie that I have watched at least a half-dozen times, and each time, it is as if I am watching it for the first time. It has such a beautiful story, and the acting performances are amazing.
What are your hobbies?
My favorite activity is spending time with my two beautiful children. I also enjoy skiing, ultimate frisbee, basketball, and watching football.
